Creativity

Evening Hill PierEveryone has the ability to be creative. It is an inherent human characteristic and the reason why we no longer live in caves.

We also have a need to be creative - not only to express ourselves but to enrich our lives.

It is therefore a strange thing about the human condition that we have a natural reluctance to explore our creative side, at least as adults. This is in part due to fear of judgment by our peers. It is not helped, however, by an establishment that champions conceptual art with no obvious connection to expertise and hard work, and a market that values bankers more highly than engineers and scientists.

Tapping into employees' creativity is a key element of effective employee engagement and I help organisations achieve this through Nutmeg. I am also a founder and director of The Arts Poole Community Interest Company which seeks to enliven and improve communication within Poole's arts scene.

I am by nature a big picture creative with my ideas finding expression within the political arena with Poole People or through my documentary work. I do, however, occasionally produce more personal works of art when time permits and I enjoy the freedom this allows.

I see my personal work as a refuge where I can make the world the perfect place I want it to be, or at least bring an element of light and beauty where there once seemed only darkness.

You can see examples of my photography, poetry and songwriting on sub-pages by clicking here. I do not pretend that the pieces are great works of art. They were produced at play, not in work. I simply wish to encourage others to share their work and be open to comments as that is how we learn.
