Introduction
My name is Mark Howell. Welcome to my personal website. I am involved in a number of ventures with various organisations which each have their own sites. While outwardly they can appear quite different, they have shared objectives and I apply the same skill set to my roles within them. This site explains these interests and skills, and expresses my values and how they relate to my career.
By design or accident I gravitate towards areas of space - space between people, projects and ideas. I work in this space, either intervening directly or acting as a catalyst, to link people together, overcome obstacles to progress and stimulate creative thinking and action. Then I move on.
I combine my analytical, creative and journalistic skills with my concern for people and community to:
- improve workplace environments and encourage corporate social responsibility through Nutmeg Communications;
- produce documentary media footage and projects on socio-political subjects;
- bring a fresh approach to local politics, focusing on delivering results for local people as Leader of Poole People; and
- create opportunities for individuals and their communities through the Harbour Ambition project.
I have used the words "moons and dunes ... and ferris wheels" from Joni Mitchell's song Both Sides Now as the title of this website. For me this beautiful song tells of the value of travelling through life. There are good times and bad but the important thing is that you must continue to seek new experiences. Not because you should expect some magical moment of enlightenment but because it is good for the soul.
